Haiku Paradise

This was my fourth trip to Maui and my first staying "up country". After staying in Barbara and Hank's Haiku paradise I won't be going back to the Four Seasons anytime soon. The cottage was perfect, beyond expectation. Hank and Barbara provide everything we needed, coolers, beach chairs, a welcome fruit basket, etc. They were there when we needed them and otherwise invisible.

Perfect secluded home away from home

We absolutely loved staying at Hank and Barbara's guest cottage, the Hookipa Bayview Cottage, for 8 nights in November 2011. When we travel, we prefer a secluded house (or apartment if we are in bigger cities) to staying in hotels and resorts, and Hank and Barbara's cottage was absolutely perfect in every way. We loved going in the bustle and hustle during the day (most activities in South or West Maui are 30-45 minutes away) and coming back to this quiet house with a gorgeous view on the valley (and the ocean and West Maui ), barbequing and sitting on the lanai. Hank and Barbara were kind enough to offer us fresh vegetables and herbs from their garden every day, and provided us with fruit as well. On nights we didn't want to cook, Paia is minutes away with tons of great restaurants. The cottage is extremely well stocked (even found a French press which we used), clean and nicely decorated. We loved the bed (which is a king), the many sliding doors, the lanai that goes around half of the house, the sound of the waterfall on rainy nights. It was perfect in every way!

"We loved this place !"

Hookipa Bayview after a long flight from Europe, what a delight to rest at Hookipa Bayview cottage. We were warmly welcomed by Barbara and Hank, with beautiful flowers and and delicious welcoming basket (oh these fresh foods !). Barbara and Hank were helpful if you need them (thank you for the list of markets and groceries to keep in the car!) , and yet very discrete. The cottage is spacious, very comfortable, clean and very well maintained. We appreciated every convenience and amenities (i.e. washer/dryer). The surroundings are stupendous, as well as the views to the ocean and West Maui Mountains. Secluded in green, tropical environment full of flowers, and yet close access to Hookipa Beach Park to watch the surfers, to Hana Road and Haleakala Road. Maui Upcountry has lovely places to discover too (Makawao, Waihou Springs Trail, Botanical Gardens ...). After a visiting or hiking day, what a pleasure to come back to this private oasis of quietness ! We recommend this address to anyone seeking another Maui than the touristic and crowded places. Mahalo Barbara and Hank for sharing your wonderful place.

The setting was as close to paradise as we've been.

What a wonderful place to spend our 30th wedding anniversary! The cottage was perfect for 2 people and had everything we needed-- kitchen, linens were well stocked and the house was super clean. Hank and Barbara respected our privacy, yet were there and helpful if we needed them. Hank's bananas were great!! The setting of the cottage is beautiful--lush vegetation and the flowers--oh, the flowers!! We had most of our meals on the deck and the aroma of the flowers was wonderful. For our plans, the cottage was in a perfect central location--other towns/beaches that we were interested in were within one hour or less of the cottage. Great place to stay--we would definitely stay there again if we go back and it's just the two of us.

Unforgettable Vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kline's cottage. It was everything we hoped for and more! The online photos were beautiful and the actual cottage, and it's surroundings, even more so! Every convenience was provided, from beach towels and chairs, to a blow dryer, and even a French Press for coffee. The washer and dryer out back made it easy to clean up after a day at the beach. Barbara and Hank were wonderful hosts and were very helpful in recommending restaurants and places to visit. They even provided a CD guided tour for the Road to Hana. They made us feel like we'd been friends forever! The island is just breathtaking, the food was awesome and the hospitality even better. We are already plotting and planning our next trip. We will definitely be back! Thank you Barbara and Hank!

I highly recommend this place; everything about it was fantastic

I manage about 90 private home vacation rentals, most of which are luxury properties, and I've always vacationed at private home rentals rather than hotels. This vacation home is as good as it gets! The home itself is gorgeous and the surrounding property and views are fantastic. It is fully equipped with everything you would want or expect in a high end luxury property. Hank and Barbara are the most gracious hosts I've ever dealt with...there in a heartbeat if you need them, but "invisible" if you don't, combining great service with complete privacy. And the location is ideal...about 20-25 minutes from the airport, but completely out in the country away from the hustle and bustle of being in town. Everything about is is perfect. Both as a professional in the same business, and as a private vacationer, I very highly recommend this place to you. When I return to Maui its where I will stay again! Aloha

Relaxing and peaceful haven on Maui

My partner and I recently stayed at the lovely Hookipa Bayview Cottage. The location is right in Haiku and is very central on the island and not far (but plenty far enough) from the airport. The cottage served as a great jumping off point for our many adventures the first part of our stay on Maui. It's right near Upcountry (we fell in love with Makawao) and is well on the way to the Haleakala Crater, which is where we spent a good portion of our trip. It's also a great place to start your drive to Hana, which is a must. And even West Maui wasn't too far away, as we spent several days on that part of the island, too. As for the place itself, its very clean and homey and is surrounded by lush and peaceful gardens. We particularly loved dining on the lanai every night, looking out over the bay and the beautiful meadow right next to the cottage. You can't imagine a more peaceful setting. The bed and furniture was very comfortable and we were able to get the much needed rest and relaxation that we were seeking. Barbara was a gracious host and made us feel very welcome, with plenty of instructions for the house, a lovely arrival gift basket, and an in-person visit and follow-up check-in phone call to make sure all was well. Barbara and Hank live in the main house. There is plenty of privacy and they are very courteous neighbors. We were very sad to leave and are already planning for our next visit.

The Real Hawaii

Many travelers who vacation in Hawaii really do seem to miss out on the true nature of the islands. It can probably even be assumed many vacationers are looking for that misleading "Hawaii Five-0" excitement. Shame, shame. Hawaiian paradise goes far beyond sipping margaritas on a sun-kissed beach, enjoying a luxury massage by the poolside, or spending hours shopping on the streets of Honolulu. Hawaii is a culture, and to truly experience this culture, one needs to know where to look: Tucked away in the luscious hills on the island of Maui, there is a small dirt path closely guarded between groves of banana and orange trees. Driving up this path you will discover a charming little cottage overlooking the Ho'okipa Bay and warmly embraced by surrounding tropical flowers and green vegetation. In the evenings you can hear a distant howl of a wind, forewarning the hills of a light mist to come, an experience that is hauntingly beautiful. The Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage is located only within minutes from the tiny rustic town of Paia, and situated right on the way to the famous Hana Highway. During your stay at the cottage, you will begin to feel like a true Hawaiian local. This is the real Hawaii.

It was a great start in our honeymoon

Hank and Barbara have a beautiful place with a wonderful garden. A lot of flowers around and in the house. We really enjoyed our stay there. It was a silent place where you can relax with a beautiful view. It is a good place to start trips to every destination on Maui. We had a great time there and we would love to come back one day.

Best vacation ever!!!

My wife and I stayed at the cottage to celebrate our tenth anniversary. It was the best vacation ever and the cottage was the best part of it. Barbara and Hank are warm, friendly, and gracious hosts. The cottage was very clean, well maintained, and stunningly beautiful. It's very quiet with a great view of the ocean and West Maui. If you want to be surrounded by sunburned tourists and cheap jewelry this is not the place for you. If what you want is peace, quiet, and the undivided attention of your significant other, there is no place better. We can't wait to come back. I urge anyone who wants a wonderful vacation to stay here.

Great place to experience Maui

Our stay at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage was fantastic! Barbara and Hank are the perfect hosts...available if you need them, otherwise you have complete privacy. The cottage has everything you need and more...Bbq, Washer/Dryer, Iron, Cable, Internet, Pots/Pans, Flashlight, etc. You can tell that Barbara & Hank put a lot of thought into making sure their guests are very comfortable. The cottage has beautiful ocean and mountain views which can be constantly enjoyed through the floor to ceiling windows and lanai that surrounds the cottage. It is secluded and private, yet close to shops, restaurants, beaches, and all kinds of activities. We enjoyed the local town atmosphere to the touristy resort environment and feel it was the best way to experience Maui. We highly recommend the Hookipa Bayview Cottage and we definitely plan on returning the next time we go back to Maui.

Peaceful Cottage and Gardens - best relaxing vacation

We loved the peace and quiet, enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of our cottage. The house offers everything you need for a comfortable stay - including folding seats we didn't think we'd use but they came handy to rest and have lunch on the beach after surfing :) The garden, lovingly and carefully designed and tended to, is full of enchanting flowery smells. Surfing and exploring Maui didn't leave us enough time to unwind at the cottage. But every minute spent there was just what we had dreamed: carefree relaxing precious moments.

A Honeymoon Paradise in Maui

If you are looking for the best place for your honeymoon or your anniversary - you have found it. We have spent a memorable week here! Staying at this cottage made our honeymoon absolutely fantastic. It has everything you need: first class location for driving to all parts of the island, very nice house equipped with everything you can imagine, panoramic bay view from the lanai, wonderful flowers and friendly owner. When we decided to choose this cottage, we have seen that is is very nice; but when we arrived, we didn't find the right word for it. The whole cottage is breathtaking, we felt like we were in paradise! We will come back, because we have to live through it again!

Peace and Quiet

This is a wonderful place to experience Maui. The view from the guest house is magnificent with a waterfall nearby which you can hear after a rainfall. The home is immaculate and secluded. If you're looking for a place away from the tourist crowds with great accommodations, this is the place to be. Hank and Barbara were great hosts.

Lovely Maui Holiday

Our Maui holiday was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with a lovely relaxing stay at Barbara & Hank's cottage. This was our first trip to Maui and we loved the tucked away serene location, yet a only a short drive to any corner of the island. We spent each day driving a different direction finding many restaurants, beaches, and shopping to explore. The cottage was clean and tastefully decorated, large windows leading to a wrap around lanai with a breathtaking view. Nestled in it's own tropical garden the cottage was roomy and quaint. A fully stocked kitchen with great grocery shopping near by....loved being able to bbq anytime! Barbara and Hank were wonderful hosts! Thank you, and hope to see you again!

Beauty and Peace

After more than 40 trips to Hawaii over the years, we now seek out those special places to stay that provide peace, beauty and seclusion. This cottage is a unique fit for our criteria. We plan to make this our Maui stop from now on. The owners, Barbara and Hank, are very pleasant and caring and provide accessible and appropriate hostessing without intrusion. They are a delight to share a glass of wine with. We enjoyed the vistas and the green lush setting of this cottage located literally on the edge of a major gulch with ocean views and the West Maui mountains and Molokai in the background. Haiku, Paia, Makawao, and beaches are only minutes away.

Our home away from home

Aloha. We are Warren & Diana from Elkhart in. We have vacationed on Maui five times previously at a lovely resort, right on the beach, for two weeks per year. We then decided to get away fro the crowd & the pseudo Hawaii resort scene to a more affordable, quiet, peaceful & authentic place. Fortunately we discovered Hookipa Bayview cottage in Upcountry Maui.

The cottage is immaculate, open & airy and comfortable. The view of the bay & mountains from the lanai is spectacular. Hank & Barbara are the perfect hosts. They are efficient, yet, friendly without being intrusive. We enjoy the scenic byways & small villages of Upcountry Maui. There are many fine restaurants with good food & local musical entertainment. The citrus fruit, pineapple fields, & fragrant colorful tropical flowers add a special touch to the island experience. Awe inspiring are the rainbows appearing & disappearing as the sun shines through a gently soft & misty rain, all adding to the almost ethereal atmosphere of Upcountry Maui.

We like to relax with coffee & fresh scones while sitting at the Hookipa Bay Overlook watching the surfers & wind surfers ride the waves. Great place to catch a glimpse of whales also.

The cottage is located near everything we enjoy and yet is tucked away in a peaceful & quiet location. We have been able to stay at Hookipa Bayview cottage for an entire month each year for the past three years and are looking forward to coming back again in 2011. We love it at Hookipa Bayview cottage.

Best place to stay in Maui

We were married during our visit to Maui. We stayed at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage. We knew ahead of time that the cottage would be nice, but it far exceeded our expectations. It was roomy, clean and met our every need. The surroundings were absolutely gorgeous and it must be the most private accommodation on the island. We also felt that we were only minutes from the most beautiful beach on the island. A big thank you to Barbara and Hank for sharing this gem with us on our very special occasion

The cottage was very comfortable. The scenery was magnificent. Hank and Barbara were helpful and friendly. They furnished everything you could want - all we needed to do was buy a few food items to prepare relaxing meals "at home". Convenient location for driving to all parts of the island. Relaxing and private. Staying at their cottage made our vacation absolutely fantastic.

Fantastic Honeymoon

We selected this cheerful cottage for our honeymoon accommodations and were very happy that we did. Located in the "real" Maui, it is ideally situated on the island with easy access to all points. It is away from the congested hotels, yet close to the airport, beaches, shops and restaurants. It is an easy, scenic and pleasurable drive to the other island areas.

There was so much to take in upon our arrival. It was so pleasant to enter the property driveway and travel through the orchard trees, tropical plants and colorful flowers into our private circular driveway. The cottage is nestled in an area surrounded by beautiful and fragrant trees and flowers and overlooks a deep lush gulch. On several evenings, we heard the waterfall.

The cottage is very comfortable and charming in decor. When we entered the cottage, we were greeted with a generous welcome basket which we very much appreciated and enjoyed during our stay. The area is very clean, spacious and functional. We liked the layout and openness of it - in particular, the beautiful high vaulted wood-beamed ceilings. There's lots of light coming through the large sliding doors on the two out-looking walls, and many windows throughout. Barbara & Hank are wonderful hosts. The place is fully stocked with all sorts of necessities (kitchen supplies, hair dryer, iron, beach items, bbq, etc.) They have thought of everything for your home away from home. When our paths crossed during our stay, they checked to make sure you weren't in need of anything.

The panoramic view from the lanai is spectacular. It was such a pleasure to enjoy the evening sunsets and to arise to the beautiful view of the nearby fields, the gleaming bay and the majestic west mountains each day. The area is very tranquil and serene - no road traffic. We found the cottage to be delightful and far superior than a hotel room and much cozier than a condo unit.

Initially, I was concerned about not having any air conditioning. Although, located on the windward side of the island, I still thought I may be uncomfortable without it, but I assure you, there is no need for concern. We enjoyed the constant gentle breezes flowing through cottage along with the use of the ceiling fans. Additionally, with the cottage opened up, we took in the sounds of the tropical forest surroundings and those melodic birds which we may have otherwise missed out on. It was very comfortable to relax in or outdoors during the day as well as sleeping during the evening.

We appreciated the invitation to cut and enjoy the grounds' flowers which we did. Hank also has an outstanding garden with quite a variety of produce that he willingly offers up for you to enjoy. Something is always ready for harvesting and consuming - can't get any fresher or better than that!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and have many fond memories of our stay here. We are looking forward to returning one day soon.

So Peaceful!

My husband and i went for 2 wks honeymoon.

Cottage is spotless/comforting with a fruit basket that Hank and Barb left for us with flowers. They live close-by and are friendly, helpful, good at letting us enjoy the seclusion of the cottage. We woke to birds/gentle breezes, felt like we were in paradise! Tiny geckos (harmless) are common. The cottage is beautiful/open. High-beamed ceilings and hardwood floors make it feel both rustic and exotic. We had breakfast at the table on wrap-around lanai. Nice views of the bay and the valley. Grounds covered with flowers, trees. Bbq and laundry around the back! Also found beach chairs, cooler, towels.

Haiku town is lovely, far from tourist zones. We did see all those areas eventually and everyday had plans but coming back to the cottage each evening was refreshing, better than busy, bustling hotel area. Do note that its a bit of a drive to anywhere on the island but it's a central location. We enjoyed cooking our own meals with micro, coffee pot, and BBQ! Good to save $, healthy, and no typical vacation stomach issues. We liked the variety of fruits/veggies available. Hank is generous to offer some of his home-grown! Bananas were our fav! Hank and Barb were generous to all our requests. Ask and you shall receive! Each evening we'd relax after our adventures enjoying tv/radio, lounge on the lanai from which i'd watch the sunset and read. In the mountains weather varies quite a bit from our hotter/drier destinations. Almost always sunny/warm. But quite a few quick misty rains to cool the air.

If you are looking for privacy/relaxation, this cottage is for you! Comfortable, cozy, quiet, not your typical vacation rental. For those who are looking to get away, enjoy each other, nature, and the serenity of being in 'upcountry' Maui.

Beautiful Tropical Retreat

It was our first visit to Maui and this lovely cottage made it a fantastic and memorable one! Haiku is a quiet village away from touristy areas and we liked it a lot. Many thanks to Barbara & Hank, this property has all you need for a comfortable stay and even more - first you enter the flowering driveway you will find Hank's beautiful tropical garden - he is a gifted gardener! Then a sweet welcome basket of hawaiian treats on the dining table relieve your jet lag - we loved their homegrown bananas! Spotless and beautifully furnished island style rooms make you feel at home, and once you open the large sliding doors the rooms are filled with bright natural light and tropical breeze. The view from the lanai is just breathtaking and a must-see!

We liked to have breakfast on the lanai and enjoy peaceful morning with colorful birds and rainbows. Beach towels and a cold box in the closet came in handy when we went surfing. Oh, don't forget to grab the straw mat from the backyard as well. We stayed for a week and explored the whole island, and felt sure that we have chosen the best place to stay on Maui. One of our most unforgettable memories is the beautiful sunrise from the top of Haleakara...it was indeed amazing, but what we miss most is those wonderful time we spent at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage. Barbara & Hank - thanks again for everything, we really hope to return!

Serene Retreat

My husband and I stayed in three areas while on Maui: a condo on the beach, a resort and Barbara and Hank's cottage. This is the perfect setting for those who desire a peaceful retreat. Rainbows, lush tropical gardens, a view of the ocean and all varieties of birds. One small green bird perched on my husband for an extended visit one morning while we were having our coffee - thats how friendly this spot is.

A Private Retreat in Paradise
This cottage was the perfect size for the two of us. You really feel like you're on your own private island. I loved waking up to the birds chirping and the sounds of the breeze in the trees. You can tell the owners are meticulous about maintaining the property-everything was spotless. It isn't on the beach, in fact it's not in a touristy part of the island, which was a plus for us. You really get the feel for what it's like to be a local. You can easily get to the touristy areas by car (less than an hour to most places). Grilling some of Hank's fresh asparagus was a real treat (so were the rest of the veggies he grows!)

Thank you so very much for opening your guest house to Petr and I. You have a little paradise here!! The first leg of our adventure to Maui began at the Four Seasons in Wailea. Barbara & Hank, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Maui and especially in your absolutely "perfect" cottage, nestled in the hills and away from the crowds in the touristy areas of the island. It was exactly what we had hoped for -peaceful retreat that allowed us some time to read and relax and decide how much and what we wanted to see on the rest of the island. When we returned to the cottage after a day of exploring, it was so calming to drive up the driveway and pull up next to your comfortable cottage. We both marvel at how well designed and built the cottage is --it shows how much you value the comfort of your visitors. Again, thanks for everything you did and offered to do. We would definitely recommend your cottage to our friends and hope to return some day soon.

We had the most wonderfully secluded honeymoon we could imagine. Thank you so much for your hospitality and cottage rental. Unfortunately it is back to reality for us now! Sorry about all of the extra food in the fridge. We simply overbought and ended up eating at Mama's Fish House 3 nights because the food is so good there!

Thank you again sooo much,

"The experience at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage was very relaxing."

The accomodations were easy to set up with Barbara and no surprises along the way. The cottage was spotless when we arrived. The home had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. For anyone who loves Maui, as Elaine and I do, a stay at Barbara and Hank's "Honeymoon Cottage" is a must. Away from the hustle and bustle of the resorts, you really begin to feel like you know the island. It's tempting to think that Maui should be called "The Garden Isle" as you enjoy the wonderful flowering bushes and trees surrounding this cozy getaway. Yes, it's a bit of a drive to the South Maui beaches, but Baldwin Park, with a great beach, and Ho'okipa Lookout (great for watching the wind surfers) are very close by. And if your agenda includes Hana and Haleakala, or lunch/dinner at Mama's Fish House, they're a lot closer than if you were staying in the resort area.

Most likely, everything you might need is provided. And, if not, Barbara and Hank are right next door to answer your needs. A treat for us was some of the most tasty parsley we have ever eaten, fresh from Hank's garden. We were a little too early for Maui onions, but I'll bet he could be talked out of one for your salad or hamburger when they're in season.

In short, a beautiful, restful place to stay - it's on our list for a return.

This being our first visit to Maui & both being independent travelers/surfers/windsurfers, when looking for accommodation we needed a place that was close to the north shore & allowed us to come and go as we pleased.

Not only this we also need somewhere quiet & relaxing after long days on Maui's awesome beaches & seeing some of its stunning countryside. The Cottage provided this and more. Surrounded by stunning tropical garden plants that fill the air with a fragrance better than any perfume you'll ever buy,in a location that overlooks woodland, pineapple fields & Ho'okipa bay in the distance,a breathtaking view as you sip coffee or juice in the morning, one you just have to see!!.The inside of the cottage wont disappoint either, built in a traditional style with stunning wood floors & high vaulted ceilings, beautiful furniture & just about everything you have in your house Hank & Barbra have provided in the Cottage for your vacation, they really have thought of everything.

We were lucky enough to spend our time not just windsurfing & surfing but travelled the length & breadth of Maui discovering the island for ourselves places no tour would ever take you & also checked out a few of the so called exclusive places, hotels & accommodation on the south of the island (the ones you'll see in the brochure's) The Ho'okipa Bay View beats them all, here you'll have it all to yourself. Just spend a week or two & check this place out you'll be hooked for life. We'll be back for sure & it takes a day or more for us to travel there from the UK.

Best Wishes Hank & Barbara
Many thanks once again

Dear Hank and Barbara,
Chris and I want to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Since we live out in the country in Portland it was much like being at home for us. Very private, very comfortable and very clean. It is one of the cleanest homes we have ever stayed in. It was so nice to come home each night to our place away from crowds.

We did not mind the commute to the beaches or wherever we chose to go. We felt in fact that this allowed us to feel less like visitors and more like island residents. It gave us a chance each day to see the same views change as the weather changed. Driving past Ho'okipa Bay each day is a wonderful treat. We especially liked being able to take back roads to get up to the crater as we avoided traffic from the other direction.

I loved the washer and dryer location outdoors. The experience was like being in a well protected tree house. We love having the outdoor come in as well as the indoor out, so your home was perfect with all the patio doors and windows and the protected deck.

For anyone who wants to save money and not go out to eat a bunch, we found the kitchen very easy to work in. We appreciated having a cooler, beach chairs and towels provided. We were able to pack a lunch each day and take it with us.

We cooked in every evening and ate twice for breakfast at Charley's. We had friends over to celebrate Chris's birthday. Chris loved the gas grill so much that we made a last minute stop on our last night there to buy steaks to grill out with.

Next time we will stay longer so we can enjoy a few days just hanging around the cottage. It is very peaceful and there are many nice area roads to walk on.

We truly had a tropical experience. Rainbows, cardinals in the tree near the deck, Tradewinds, sunsets and more.

Mahalo and regards,

Lori and Chris

A great place to stay on Maui
Our stay at the Aloha Hookipa Bayview Cottage was an extremely pleasant experience. As it is located in central Maui, it provided an excellent base for my wife and me to tour the entire island. The well landscaped setting is very private and extremely quiet, yet only a few miles away from routes to easily access Haleakala National Park, west Maui, and the road to Hana. The cottage is roomy, very clean, and comfortable. After only a few minutes it felt just like home. Everything we needed was provided from a toaster for our breakfast toast to a gas grill to prepare our evening meal. There were even scissors to cut a few of the beautiful flowers surrounding the cottage that Barbara welcomed us to cut! It is definitely a great place to stay if you want to avoid the crowds yet see and experience the island of Maui.

Peace and quiet with everything close by
Barbara and Hank Kline have an absolutely wonderful vacation/honeymoon cottage tucked away in Haiku, Maui, just 15 minutes from the perfectly sized small town of Paia. The cottage is situated on 2 acres of their gorgeously self-landscaped property, which you will with their main residence, but the house and cottage are invisible to each other due to the ample landscaping. Spend some time with Hank in his impressive vegetable garden, or talk to them about the myriad of flowers and foliage decorating their property.

The cottage is newly constructed and perfectly sized for two. There are so many full length windows that no matter which way your turn, its nearly impossible not to see the hillside of Haleakala, the ocean, or the beautiful landscaping. The Kline's provide everything you could ever need, such as pots & pans, washer & dryer, beach chairs, beach mats, cookware, plates, silverware, king size bed, plush bath and beach towels, the list could go on and on. If you needed it, they had it! (they also encourage you to ask them if something you need happens to not already be in the cottage.) Hank and Barbara have stocked their magazine rack with local restaurant menus from the nearby towns of Haiku and Paia. The cottage is very quiet, we were never woken up by any type of outside noise, even sleeping with the windows open. The cottage is situated 5 minutes from the Hana Highway, where you're already 10 miles into the road to Hana (past the boring part). The cottage is located such that you never have to drive very far to get to great local beaches or restaurants (10 min tops), and its under a 40 minute drive to South Maui and about an hour to West Maui.

We found the cottage to fit our needs perfectly. Barbara and Hank are super friendly and have done a tremendous job providing everything you could want for a perfect Maui getaway nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Maui tourists. We would recommend this cottage to anyone and we look forward to a return trip!!

Maui Perfection
Our stay at Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage was perfect. Barb and Hank thought of everything to make us comfortable and welcome. The cottage and grounds were immaculate and so well stocked with everything we needed. It was so peaceful and we will tell everyone where to stay when they visit Maui!

Wonderfully Relaxing Get-Away
My wife and I stayed a week, enough time to relax and refresh us. The cottage is bright, airy and very clean. Although within site of the main house, the cottage has its own driveway and is very private. Barbara and Hank have included everything needed for a wonderful holiday, even beach towels, beach chairs and a cold box.

We enjoyed spectacular sunsets, rainbows, real (warm) rain and the sweet smells and sounds that can only come from a rain forest environment.

We definitely want to return!

Paradise in Maui
I can't say enough about how wonderful Hookipa Bayview Cottage was. Everything was pristine clean. Everything you need is there. The BBQ was in mint condition. There was a hot plate, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker. All the comforts of home and more. Not only was the location beautiful to sit on the great lanai and see the bay below, but at night there was a wonderful breeze and you were never really hot. It was perfect. I would go back in a heartbeat. We also discovered a nice little restaurant in Haiku with entertainment on Monday nights. It was great. We stayed 11 days and loved every one of them. I would encourage everyone to stay for at least 7-8 minimum in order to see the island in it's entirety. Definitely our best lodging experience in all of the Hawaiian Islands.

"We've stayed at the adorable Ho'okipa Bay View Cottage with its secluded gardens for two glorious weeks and loved it so much that we stayed there again the following year.

We love to windsurf and staying on the North Shore of Maui was a must for us. We found the cottage just as beautiful and our stay just as enjoyable on our second visit. The cottage is immaculate, beautifully furnished and very well maintained and the view of the Ocean across Maui's pineapple fields is spectacular.

Hank & Barbara thought of everything to ensure our stay was comfortable, and we most definitely recommend staying in this secluded, romantic cottage in Haiku. We loved the cottage and its location in Haiku so much that it resulted in us buying property very close by and have now built our own home there."

"Wonderful cottage! My husband and I spent a week in this cottage two years ago, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We loved it so much that we returned this April for another week!

A great location... close to beaches, charming little towns, up-country hikes, or... perfect for just relaxing right there. There is a gorgeous view from the porch. The plantings around the cottage are lovely. The interior is charming...

Barbara and Hank have done a great job making sure that guests have everything they could possibly need. It was hard to leave, but we're already looking forward to our next visit!"
